Clone of DJ Cary in The Attic

Picture 1-1
At this web site of San Francisco nightlife, an "Event: Cary @ The Attic" is described as: "Amnesia hosts a night of varied beats, as DJ Cary takes the helm this Wednesday. If hip-hop, reggae, funk and salsa is your grooves of choice, then you'll fit right in for this midweek styler. DJ Cary is skilled in the ways of downtempo, and her label, Magnatune, has been known to put out a mix or two of the variety. Come out and check her out. Its intimate, its groovy and its free. (AC)"

The only problem is that DJ Cary, who is has several albums at Magnatune specializing in downtempo compilations, has no idea what these people are talking about, as she's certainly not DJing at this club.

So... we're trying to figure out if this club is just playing DJ Cary's Magnatune compilation CDs, or if there's someone standing behind a turntable claiming to be playing live music when they're actually playing Magnatune music. All very odd...

The "live music bar" which is hosting the event is named "The Attic". There's no web site that I can find for it.

An interesting mystery...

Did you ever find out what's up?

Did you ever find out what's up?

Turns out that calendar entry was a few months old, so when Joel went to visit the club, they had no idea why it said what it did. Probably an alien conspiracy...

Thats because they were talking about me, DJ Cary from NYC. Apparently someone followed in my footsteps and took the name DJ Cary. I'm a reggae, hip hop, salsa DJ and did a few shows at the attic when I moved to San Fran a few months ago. I'm not sure what "downtempo" music means as a genre, but I assume it exists as kind of a soundtrack to mostly white 20-30 somethings drinking martinis.

anyways, hopefully this clears things up.

It's very funny that The Attic decided to mash together your real bio (reggae/hiphop) with some bio they got from the Internet, namely that your "label" is Magnatune.

Nowadays it's be a Mojito they'd be drinking

I'm glad we figured this out. It is pretty hilarious actually that 2 people's bio's got fused together.

We could have a gimmicky promotional event: Dj Cary vs. Dj Cary. We could make a poster kind of like Andy Warhol vs. Basquiat to promote it.

thanks for the reply.

I'm glad to clear up this genre-and-gender confusion. Maybe this is a new digital-age affliction: "biofusion."

Interesting suggestion for an event, Cary Broder, but I confess: I don't spin vinyl! I wish I could. You'd win hands-down on that one.

Biofusion. I'll bet there's several late 70's jazz records with that title, and I'll bet none of them are any good and all would have eric gale on them... Anyways, since we've been biologically fused together via the web we should make the most of it. Maybe you can teach me how this newfangled music technology works....my email is djcary@hotmail.com

anyways, let me know when you're spinning next and I'll check it out. It's only right....

Hi--

I first heard D J Cary Norsworthy's music on a Memorex MP3 player that had some great stuff already pre-loaded. I wanted to find some other things to download, and first tried Googling "D J Carey," and learned a LOT about a famous Irish hurler. Once I corrected the spelling, it was only a short ride to D J Cary and "downtempo." (I must confess I'd never heard the term, either, until now.)

I'm a journalist, primarily doing travel writing at this point in my career. However, I used to be a media reviewer for the Chicago Tribune, and still do music reviews from time to time. Ms. Norsworthy, if you'd like to send me an email, I might be able to do something for you along those lines...you can use my personal email address, yourmountainhome@yahoo.com.

Best wishes,

Sheri Z
